Abstract:
We have obtained an optical spectrum of SN 2020zs, which reveals it to be a Type II supernova.

The adH0cc programme for an "accurate determination of H0 with core-collapse supernovae" reports the classification of the optical transient SN 2020zs. The target was supplied by the Zwicky Transient Facility ZTF (Kulkarni 2018, 2018ATel11266....1K). The observations were performed on the night of 2020 January 17 with the ESO Very Large Telescope UT1, equipped with the FORS2 spectrograph and grism 300V, covering a wavelength range from 3400 to 9600A at a resolution of 10A.

TNS 2020zs [ZTF20aaekbdr] 08:27:51.326 +08:05:44.20 SN II 0.0458 SDSS J082750.78+080538.1 0.0458 ZTF 16d The spectrum shows a blue continuum with prominent P-Cygni lines of hydrogen and helium superimposed. Weak lines of Fe II are already visible. From the spectroscopic appearance and the photometric constraints, we estimate a phase about 2 weeks after explosion. 08:27:51.336 +08:05:44.21 SN II 0.0458
