adH0cc spectroscopic classification of SN 2020upe
Source Group: adH0cc
Abstract:
We have obtained an optical spectrum of SN 2020upe, which shows it to be a young Type II supernova.
The adH0cc programme for an "accurate determination of H0 with core-collapse supernovae" reports the classification of the optical transient SN 2020upe. The target was supplied by the ATLAS survey (Tonry et al. 2018, 2018PASP..130f4505T) and the Zwicky Transient Facility ZTF (Kulkarni 2018, 2018ATel11266....1K). The observations were performed on the night of 2020 October 5 with the ESO Very Large Telescope UT1, equipped with the FORS2 spectrograph and grism 300V, covering a wavelength range from 3400 to 9600 Å at a resolution of 10 Å.

TNS | 2020upe | 02:45:55.392 | -12:45:31.18 | SN II | 0.026 | GALEXASCJ024555.28-124529.1 | 0.026 | 10d | The spectrum shows a blue continuum with P-Cygni lines of hydrogen and helium superimposed. The phase has been estimated from the light curve. The redshift has been measured from narrow host galaxy H-alpha emission. | 02:45:55.400 | -12:45:31.21 | SN II | 0.026 |
