VLA X-band Detection of AT2020xnd
Authors: A. Y. Q. Ho (UC Berkeley), D. A. Perley (LJMU), and Y. Yao (Caltech)
Abstract:
We report the detection of luminous radio emission from the fast blue optical transient AT2020xnd at z=0.2442.

On UT 2020 Oct 23 the Very Large Array (VLA) observed the position of AT2020xnd (ZTF20acigmel), a distant (z=0.2442) fast blue optical transient (Perley et al. ATel #14105, AstroNote #2020-199). The X-band image RMS was 5 uJy in 23 minutes of on-source time.

A point source was detected at the position of AT2020xnd with a flux density of 21 uJy in X-band, corresponding to a luminosity of 4E28 erg/s/Hz. This is over an order of magnitude more luminous than the radio luminosity of AT2018cow at a similar frequency and epoch (10 days post-explosion; Ho et al. 2019, ApJ, 871, 73).

We thank the VLA staff for rapidly scheduling and executing these observations.
