Abstract:
We classify SN 2020jyh as a young Type Ia supernova using spectra from the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT).

AT 2020jyh is a supernova discovered in an anonymous galaxy (Chen et al., TNSTR 2021-1241).  We obtained an optical spectrum using the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) on April 30, 2021. The spectrum has a wavelength coverage of about 390 – 780 nm.

The spectrum matches well with the spectrum of SN 1994D at +1.6 days from B-band maximum redshifted to 0.13 using the code of Howell & Wang (2002, AAS 201, 9103). Note that the photo-z for the host galaxy given as 0.2795 +/- 0.0372 by SDSS-DR12 (Alam et al. 2015, ApJS 219 12) which is likely to be incorrect.
