ZTF classification of SN 2021ont/ZTF21abdmevk as a Type II SN

Abstract:
We reclassify AT 2021ont as a Type II supernova which showed strong flash features (He II) at early times.

ZTF21abdmevk was discovered on 2021-06-03 at 08:20:14.997 by ZTF. A spectrum obtained 3 days after the first detection with DBSP (P200) showed a strong He II emission line with a linewidth of ~ 500km/s, typical of flash ionised circumstellar material at early times in SNe II . 

We monitored the evolution of the He II line and constrained its disapperance to less than a week from the first detection. 

 

The ALFOSC+NOT spectrum, obtained >~ 1 month after first detection shows broad Balmer lines. We hence reclassify this transient as a supernova of type II.
