Type II Supernova classifications from the iPTF survey (2016/2017)

Abstract:
We report the classification of 32 Type II core-collapse supernovae discovered/detected by the iPTF survey during 2016/2017.

We report the classification of 32 Type II supernovae (among which are two Type IIb and four Type IIn) from the intermediate Palomar Transient Factory. The classification spectra were obtained with the following telescopes/instruments: DBSP (Double Beam Spectrograph) on the Palomar 200 inch telescope, LRIS (Low-Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) on the 10 m Keck-I telescope, the SED Machine on the Palomar 60 inch telescope, GMOS (Gemini Multi-Object Spectrographs) on the 8 m Gemini-North telescope, DOLORES (Device Optimized for the Low Resolution) on the 3.5 m TNG telescope and the Deveny-LMI on the 4.3 m LDT (Lowell Discovery Telescope, formerly called the DCT - Discovery Channel Telescope.

These transients constitute the majority of a set of Type II SNe that were reported by iPTF and/or other surveys to the TNS but for which no classifications were so far reported (thus they remained with a prefix of "AT"; now switched to "SN").

Additional information for all these SNe can be found in the (i)PTF core-collapse sample paper by Schulze et al. (arXiv:2008.05988). The released classification spectra are also available on WISeREP (https://www.wiserep.org).

These classification reports complement those reported in AstroNote 2021-191, which are mostly Stripped-Envelope CC-SNe (Type Ib/c's).
