The Asiago Transient Classification Program (Tomasella et al. 2014, AN, 335, 841) reports the spectroscopic observation of AT2021zfo (discovered by ALeRCE and also labelled ZTF21abtsoky).
The observation was obtained with the Asiago 1.82m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC; range 340-820 nm; resolution 1.4 nm).
The low S/N spectrum is consistent with spectra of the Type Ic SN 2004aw around maximum light, at a redshift z=0.085 measured from a narrow Halpha line in emission.
Similar good matches are obtained with the 91T-like Ia SN 1998es and the Type IIn/Ia-CSM SN 2002ic, although the narrow Halpha line is most likely due to host galaxy contamination. We therefore favour a “Type I” classification for the transient.
The classification was performed using the GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A&A, 488, 383) tool.
