Abstract:
We report the detection of luminous radio emission from the luminous fast blue optical transient AT2023hkw at z=0.339.

On UT 2023 June 14 the Very Large Array (VLA) observed the position of AT2023hkw (ZTF23aaimsja), a fast blue optical transient at z=0.339 (AstroNote #2023-114). The X-band image RMS was 5 uJy in 33 minutes of on-source time.

A point source was detected at the position of AT2023hkw with a flux density of 86 uJy in X-band (10 GHz in the observer frame), corresponding to a luminosity of 3.5E29 erg/s/Hz at 33 rest-frame days post-explosion. This is an order of magnitude more luminous than the radio luminosity of AT2018cow at a similar frequency and epoch (Margutti et al. 2019), and similar to the radio luminosity of AT2020xnd (Bright et al. 2022, Ho et al. 2022).

We thank the VLA staff for rapidly scheduling and executing these observations.
