Abstract:
We report that SN 2024ggi is a young Type II SN with flash ionization features.

We report that SN 2024ggi is a Type II SN. Our spectrum, taken less than a day after discovery by ATLAS (2024-04-11 03:22:36), shows a young SN II with flash ionization features similar to those of SN 2023ixf. The distance to this object (~7 Mpc) is comparable to SN 2023ixf (6.4 Mpc), SN 2017eaw (~7.7 Mpc), and SN 2011dh (~8.4 Mpc).

Our spectrum was taken with the ANU 2.3m telescope using the WiFeS instrument.
