VLA Observation of AT2024qfm

Abstract:
We report a VLA X-band (10 GHz) observation of AT2024qfm, which resulted in a non-detection.

On UT 2024 August 2 the Very Large Array (VLA) observed the position of AT2024qfm, a luminous fast blue optical transient (AstroNote #2024-206) at z=0.227 (AstroNote #2024-210) with X-ray emission (ATel #16748). The X-band image RMS was 5 uJy in 32.5 minutes of on-source time.

No emission was detected at the position of AT2024qfm, with a 3-sigma upper limit at 10 GHz corresponding to a luminosity of vLv~2E38 erg/s at ~10 days (observer frame) after the first optical detection. This is consistent with the radio luminosity of previous LFBOTs, such as AT2018cow (Margutti et al. 2019) and AT2020xnd (Ho et al. 2022), at a similar frequency and epoch.

Further observations are planned. We thank the VLA staff for rapidly scheduling and executing these observations.
