Abstract:
BlackGEM and MeerLICHT discovery of possible very young transient/supernova AT2024vjm at q_AB=18.82 in NGC6744 at 7 Mpc, with 18hrs non-detection window.

The BlackGEM consortium reports the possibly very young supernova AT2024vjm in NGC6744, at a distance of 7 Mpc, located at RA (ICRS) = 19:09:25.802 (287.357508), DEC (ICRS) = -63:50:01.78 (-63.833828). AT2024vjm was first detected on 2024-09-13 23:59:05 at a magnitude of q_AB = 18.82 and was detected three times each in both the q and i-band filters on BG2 and BG4. The last BlackGEM non-detection was at  2024-09-13 00:01:00 at q_AB > 20.12 on BG4.

Additionally, the object has multiple detections in MeerLICHT q-, and i-band data starting on 2024-09-13 17:51:00 at q_AB = 18.82 +/- 0.12. The last MeerLICHT non-detection was at 2024-09-12 21:17:42 at q_AB > 19.72.

The combined BlackGEM-MeerLICHT data give an explosion window of 17h50m between 2024-09-13 00:01:00 and 2024-09-13 17:51:00. Further constraints from other surveys and follow-up spectroscopy to identify the nature of AT2024vjm are highly encouraged.
