adH0cc spectroscopic classification of SN 2024wrc
Source Group: adH0cc
Abstract:
We have obtained an optical spectrum of SN 2024wrc, showing it to be a reddened Type Ia supernova a few days after maximum light. This is the third Type Ia supernova in the same galaxy within 7 years.
The adH0cc programme for an "accurate determination of H0 with core-collapse supernovae" reports the classification of the optical transient SN 2024wrc. The target was supplied by the Pan-STARRS Survey for Transients (Chambers et al. 2016, 2016arXiv161205560C), the Zwicky Transient Facility ZTF (Kulkarni 2018, 2018ATel11266....1K), and the Gravitational-wave Optical Transient Observer GOTO (see Dyer et al. 2020, SPIE, 11445 2020SPIE11445E..7GD). The observations were performed on the night of 2024 October 4 with the ESO Very Large Telescope UT1, equipped with the FORS2 spectrograph and grism 300V, covering a wavelength range from 3400 to 9600 Å at a resolution of 10 Å.

Si II 6355 is very prominent and blueshifted by about 11400 km/s (adopting the known redshift of the host galaxy z = 0.0653). The relatively red continuum and a narrow Na D line at the redshift of the host suggest non-negligible reddening. GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, 2008A&A...488..383H) finds an excellent match with a spectrum of SN 2002er at +4.8d. SN 2024wrc is already the third Type Ia supernova in the same galaxy in recent years, after SN 2018hlp and SN 2023woq. This makes the system an interesting test case for SN Ia standardisation procedures and distance estimates. | 01:27:34.387 | -12:26:45.27 | SN Ia | 0.0653 |
