Abstract:
We classify AT2024abfo as a young Type II supernova in NGC 1493 at 11 Mpc.

AT2024abfo was first detected by ATLAS-STH on 2024 November 15 at 22:54:00 UT with a magnitude of o=16.79 mag. Following the ATLAS discovery, the fully-robotic SAAO 1-m Lesedi telescope equipped with the Mookodi low-resolution (R~172) spectrograph and imager was automatically triggered and obtained a 600 s spectrum beginning at 18:19:32 UT on 2024 September 16. The presence of a broad P-Cygni H-alpha feature is consistent with a young Type II supernova. Further follow-up is encouraged.
