Abstract:
We classify both AT2024aamh and AT2024aaqu as Type Ia supernovae based on optical spectroscopy taken by the Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET) at McDonald Observatory.

We obtained optical spectra of AT2024aamh and AT2024aaqu with the Low Resolution Spectrograph 2 (LRS2) on the Hobby-Eberly Telescope (HET) at McDonald Observatory on 2024-11-30 UT.  Both transients have been announced recently as SLSN candidates by the Neural Engine for Discovering Luminous Events (NEEDLE) classifier in AstroNote 2024-350.

Both transients turned out to be Type Ia supernovae at similar redshift and age. Redshifts are estimated by the SuperNova IDentification tool (SNID, Blondin &  Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024). Age estimates are from comparison with SN 2011fe spectra (Pereira et al. A&A 554, 27, 2013).
