Following the discovery of AT 2024aduf in the galaxy NGC 5945 (z = 0.018323 +/- 0.000007, metric distance of 60 Mpc, from NED) by Koichi Itagaki (TNS Astronomical Transient Report No. 235541)
on 2024-12-09 21:01:37 UT at a clear magnitude of 16, we have carried out follow-up optical imaging with one of the two Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope network (LCOGT) 40-cm telescopes located at the LCOGT node at Teide Observatory (Tenerife, Spain). The observations consisted of single exposures in the SDSS g', r', and i' filters (60 sec in each filter) and a 120-sec exposure in the PanSTARRS zs filter. We obtain the following magnitudes, calibrated against PanSTARRS DR1 and not corrected for Galactic extinction:
g' = 15.72 +/- 0.03, on 2024-12-11 06:45:09 UT
r' = 15.54 +/- 0.04, on 2024-12-11 06:46:17 UT
i' = 15.63 +/- 0.06, on 2024-12-11 06:47:24 UT
zs = 15.79 +/- 0.11, on 2024-12-11 06:48:31 UT
This transient has been classified as a type Ia SN at the redshift of NGC 5945 by Claudio Balcon (TNS Classification Report No. 18900).
Multi-wavelength follow up is encouraged.
These results are based on observations made with the Las Cumbres Observatory’s education network telescopes that were upgraded through generous support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and are part of a course on Astrophysical Techniques of the Master in Astrophysics of the Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain (LCOGT observing programme IAC2024B-010, ULL-ASTRO-MASTER).
