Abstract:
We report a Swift-XRT detection of X-ray emission from the off-nuclear IMBH–TDE candidate 2025abcr. The X-rays are luminous and ultrasoft, while contemporaneous Swift-UVOT photometry shows the source to be UV-bright. Together, these properties are consistent with a tidal disruption event.

We requested ToO observations of TDE 2025abcr, reported by Stein et al. (AstroNote 2025-317). The observation was started on 2025-11-09T14:49:31 UTC, with an exposure time of ~1ks.

We find evidence for significant X-ray emission at the optical position of the transient, with count-rate ~0.02 c/s (0.3-10 keV). A preliminary spectral analysis provides evidence for a very soft X-ray spectrum that is typical of TDEs. The spectrum is best fitted with a steep power-law index Gamma=6.1 (-1.6,+0.2), indicative of a thermal continuum with T~0.04 keV, and no evidence for internal absorption. For these spectral parameters, the inferred 0.3-10 keV flux is ~5.7e-13 ergs/cm^2/s (absorbed). The Galactic neutral hydrogen column density along the line of sight is 1.6e+20 cm-2 (HI4PI Collaboration, 2016). At the distance of this source (z = 0.05, d = 229.16 Mpc), this corresponds to a luminosity of 3.4e42 erg/s.

AT2025abrc is a bright source of UV emission. From Swift-UVOT observations, we report the following AB magnitudes of B = 18.5 +/- 0.1 mag, U = 18.7+/- 0.1 mag, UVW1 = 18.4+/-0.1 mag, and UVW2 = 18.0 +/- 0.1 mag. The combination of the high X-ray luminosity, very soft X-ray spectral shape, and blue UV-optical colors are typical of TDEs.

Further multiwavelength observations are in progress.

We thank the Swift team, especially Kim Page and Simone Dichiara, and the PI Brad Cenko for promptly scheduling and making these observations possible.
