Abstract:
We report 20 supernova candidates with magnitudes down to ~30.4 AB mag collected from the NGDEEP (PI: Finkelstein; PID: 2079) survey data. They are hosted by galaxies with redshifts ranging from z=0.072 to z=3.087. We found these sources via a visual archival search of JWST NIRCam images taken with the F115W, F150W, F200W, F277W, F356W, and F444W filters on UT January 31 - February 2, 2023 and on UT January 23 - February 1, 2024.

The Next Generation Deep Extragalactic Exploratory Public (NGDEEP) Survey (PI: Finkelstein; PID: 2079), one of the deepest NIRCam surveys conducted with JWST, collected data with the F115W, F150W, F200W, F277W, F356W, and F444W filters on UT January 31 - February 2, 2023 (epoch1), and one year later on UT January 23 - February 1, 2024 (epoch2).

We created difference images by subtracting the epoch1 NIRCam images from the epoch2 images and searched for transients via visual inspection. We performed aperture photometry to measure the transients' apparent magnitudes.

We found 15 supernova candidates that first appeared in the epoch2 images and 5 supernova candidates that first appeared in epoch1 images, with magnitudes down to ~30.4 AB mag. We assigned 19 of these to nearby host galaxies with redshifts ranging from z=0.072 to z=3.087. We neither list a redshift for AT 2023aefa due to unclear host association, nor for AT 2024aihx and AT 2024aiid due to unreliable photometric redshift fitting.

Notably, AT 2023aeez at z~1.16 shows exceptional brightness in F115W (24.33 AB mag) and F150W (24.82 AB mag), and outshines its host, which means this supernova was likely captured near its peak.

The attached zip file contains difference images and six-color images for each supernova candidate. This catalog further emphasizes JWST's capability to detect supernovae at high redshift.
