Spectroscopic classification of SN 2026rcy/LSST 170587110502301802 as a hydrogen-poor superluminous supernova (SLSN-I) at a redshift of 0.7

Abstract:
We report the spectroscopic classification of SN 2026rcy as a hydrogen-poor superluminous supernova (SLSN-I) at z ~ 0.7.

An optical spectrum of SN 2026rcy was obtained with the LRIS spectrograph on the Keck I 10-m telescope on 2026 07 11 UT. Template matching with the spectral fitting code NGSF shows that the transient is best matched to a hydrogen-poor superluminous supernova (iPTF13ajg) with a redshift of z = 0.71. The transient has no visible host in Legacy Survey DR10. At this redshift, the peak absolute magnitude in the Rubin/LSST i-band and z-band data are M_i ~ -21.8 and M_z ~ -21.7 (AB). The current rise time of the transient is ~0.02 mag/day in both i-band and z-band. The Rubin/LSST light curve is available via the LSST Brokers, e.g., Babamul.
