Gamma-ray upper observations of SN 2026sqf with MAGIC

Abstract:
We report non-detection of gamma rays above 800 GeV of the nearby SN 2026sqf with the MAGIC telescopes.

We observed the field of SN 2026sqf (z = 0.00331, Wiggins et al., TNS Report 313386) with the MAGIC telescopes. A total 1.8 h of MAGIC were obtained on MJD 61232, at four days after discovery. Observations were performed near the elevation limit of MAGIC, as the source is currently setting from La Palma.  A preliminary offline analysis of the MAGIC dataset shows no excess of gamma rays above 800 GeV at the position of SN 2026sqf . These results have been obtained using the MAGIC analysis software MARS (Zanin et al. 2013). A more in-depth analysis of this data set is ongoing. Further multiwavelength observations are encouraged especially with radio observatories. 
MAGIC is a system of two 17m-diameter Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes located on the Canary island of La Palma, Spain, and designed to perform gamma-ray astronomy in the energy range from 50 GeV to greater than 50 TeV.
