Classification of SN2020nlb as a type-Ia supernova in Messier 85
Keywords: Supernova
Abstract:
We report the NUTS2/OPTICON classification of the transient SN2020nlb (AT2020qoq) in the galaxy MESSIER 85. The spectrum is consistent with a very young SN Ia.
Following the ATLAS detection of the transient AT2020nlb (ATLAS20qoq)
in the nearby galaxy MESSIER 85, we triggered our NUTS2/OPTICON follow up.
Observations were taken on UT 2020-06-25 with gr4 grism and the 1.0" slit.
The reduced spectrum shows an expansion velocity of ~14800 km/s as deduced from the
SiII 6355A absorption at a redshift z=0.002432.
The spectrum looks then similar to the spectra of some normal and under-energetic
SNIa well before maximum. The photometry and constraining non-detection reported
by ATLAS (Townsend et al. 2020) are also consistent with a SN Ia few days after explosion.
