Abstract:
We report the ZTF independent discovery and LCOGT follow-up photometry of AT 2024iss (GOTO24bmf, ZTF24aankvcy), a bright and fast transient located in a dwarf galaxy in the Coma cluster of galaxies

O'Neil et al. have reported the GOTO discovery of the bright, rapidly-rising supernova candidate AT 2024iss (GOTO24bmf) on May 12 2024 21:36:45 UT at 14.58 mag in L-band (TNS Astronomical Transient Report No. 210230 and AstroNote 2024-128) with a very rapid initial rise of >5 mag/d.

Here, we report the independent ZTF discovery and LCOGT follow-up photometry of AT 2024iss.

ZTF detected AT 2024iss, ZTF24aankvcy, on 2024-05-13 07:17:02 UT at g = 13.785 +/- 0.022 (unforced photometry) and on 2024-05-13 05:53:05 UT at r = 14.106 +/- 0.002 (forced photometry). The last ZTF non-detection was on 2024-05-11 07:24:50 UT with a limiting magnitude g = 20.325.

We observed AT 2024iss with one of the Las Cumbres Observatory global telescope network 1-m telescopes at the Siding Spring Observatory node in the SDSS u', g', r', and i' and PanSTARRS zs and Y filters. We report the following photometry, calibrated with stars from the Gaia DR3 synthetic photometry catalog from Gaia low-resolution spectra (Gaia Collaboration, Montegriffo et al. 2023, A&A 674, A33):

Time (UT) Magnitude (AB) Error Filter Exposure time (sec)
2024-05-13T11:10:27 13.44 0.03 SDSS u' 20
2024-05-13T11:11:20 13.65 0.02 SDSS g' 10
2024-05-13T11:12:03 13.87 0.02 SDSS r' 10
2024-05-13T11:12:46 14.08 0.02 SDSS i' 10
2024-05-13T11:13:29 14.22 0.03 PanSTARRS zs 20
2024-05-13T11:14:23 14.35 0.10 PanSTARRS Y 20

Follow up is strongly encouraged, particularly the spectroscopic classification.

This work makes use of observations from the Las Cumbres Observatory global telescope network, program IAC2024A-008.

The ZTF light curve is available at the ZTF/LSST brokers, e.g.:
