Abstract:
We report the classification of the optical transient AT 2024qab (RA = 18:14:06.192, Dec = +36:14:59.69, z = 0.1398) as a tidal disruption event (TDE) due to its persistent blue optical colours and follow-up optical spectroscopy, with the latter revealing broad Halpha as well as a blend of Hbeta, HeII and NIII.

We report the classification of the optical transient AT2024qab (RA = 18:14:06.192, Dec = +36:14:59.69, z = 0.1398) as a tidal disruption event (TDE) due to its persistent blue optical colours and follow-up optical spectroscopy, with the latter revealing broad Halpha as well as a blend of Hbeta, HeII and NIII.

ZTF24aatxshz/AT2024qab was first reported to TNS by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) on 2024 Jul. 24. It was first detected in the g-band by ZTF on 2024 Jun. 15 at a magnitude of 20.82. The light curves keep rising in a slow rate, showing persistent blue colours. The latest detection on 2024 Jul. 28 is at a magnitude of 18.92 in the g-band with a g-r colour of ~ -0.5.

We triggered a follow-up observation with the ALFOSC optical spectrograph on the Nordic Optical Telescope and a spectrum was taken on 2024 07 28. This follow-up spectrum displayed broad H-alpha and a broad blend of Hbeta, He II and NIII emission. We detect Ca H&K lines from the host galaxy at a redshift of z = 0.1398. At this redshift, the latest detection is at an absolute magnitude of -20.18.

Based on the blue optical colors and follow-up optical spectroscopy we classify AT 2024qab as a TDE.
