Megan Newsome (Las Cumbres), Iair Arcavi (TAU), Sara Faris, Joseph Farah, Moira Andrews, D. Andrew Howell, Curtis McCully report/s a classification of object: SN 2024aakr
Type: SN IaRedshift: 0.02634
Remarks: The supernova is closest to MRK 0628 (z = 0.02634, 2007SDSS6.C...0000:, value from NED). Adopting this redshift we measure a Si II 6355 velocity of approximately 10,000 km/s. Adopting the distance modulus computed from this redshift (35.3), the g-band absolute magnitude of the object roughly coeval with the spectrum is -18.9 (apparent magnitude 16.37, from ZTF). This absolute magnitude and velocity is consistent with an SN Ia near maximum light.
The following Classification spectrum was provided:
Obsdate: 2024-11-11 13:14:46
Instrument: FLOYDS-N
Telescope: Faulkes Telescope North
