TNS Classification Report No. 18828 [ 2024TNSCR4731....1B ]

Nadejda Blagorodnova (UB), David Jones, Antonio Luis Cabrera Lavers (IAC), Maxime Wavasseur, Hugo Tranin, Grace Katusiime, Gerard Garcia-Moreno, Marco Gomez-Muñoz (UB) report/s a classification of object: SN 2024aaqs
Type: SN IIPRedshift: 0.02126
Remarks: The spectrum shows a broad P-Cygni profile for Halpha and Hbeta lines, in agreement with SN II. Assuming the redshift from Simbad (it matches better the Na I narrow feature in the spectrum), the velocity of the absorption at minimum for these lines is ~8900km/s. The transient appears red in colour and underluminous during its plateau phase. Provided that the line-of-sight extinction is quite moderate (Av=0.218; Schlafly & Finkbeiner 2011), we suggest that there is significant reddening for this transient inside its host galaxy.
The following Classification spectrum was provided:
Obsdate: 2024-11-30 22:58:09
Instrument: OSIRIS
Telescope: Gran Telescopio Canarias
Remarks: D. Jones). Calibrated using standard procedures.
