Nuttall, D. Pollacco, J. Casares Vel'azquez, Tom Killestein, A. Kumar, D. O'Neill report/s a classification of object: SN 2026kia

Type: SN II
Redshift: 0.014577

Remarks: Good template matches to young Type II SNe, matching the current age of the transient (<5d from explosion). As the spectrum does not exhibit any narrow host galaxy lines, the redshift is unclear but likely low (z<0.015) given the brightness of the event and the best spectral fits. We assume the redshift of the brighter nearby galaxy, MCG-03-28-017, towards South East of the SN (0.014577, NED), but emphasise that the actual host galaxy may not be found at the redshift.
