The g-band apparent magnitude was calculated based on the extrapolation of g-band values of eight field stellar objects using SAOImageDS9 (ranging from g= 20.35 to g=21.97). The magnitudes of these references were extracted from the SDSS DR12.

This transient was discovered by Trygve Prestgard in public data from the The Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (via:

). The unknown nature of the transient was first discussed on the Galaxy Zoo platform and confirmed by Ine Theunissen:

Suspected detection in a Pan-STARRS DR1 g-filter frame from 2013-10-08 (see attached file). Coordinates are from the DECaLS DR7 imaging catalog.
