Date Received (UTC): 2016-03-27 07:53:43
Date made public:
Sender: Stephen Smartt
Reporting Group: ATLAS Discovery Data Source: ATLAS
Stephen Smartt report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: AT 2016bky
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 07:12:58.810 (108.245042) DEC = +00:19:57.60 (0.332667)
Discovery date: 2016-03-05 09:21:36.000 (JD=2457452.89)
Remarks: Offset from a faint, diffuse host which is probably a low surface brightness galaxy in PS1 3Pi stack images. Also discovered as Gaia16ahp, with consistent mag and blue SED (No object reported in Vizier at this position). Probable SN in faint host.
Photometry
Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2016-03-05 09:21:36.000
Flux: 17.17 ABMag
Filter: cyan-ATLAS
Instrument: ATLAS-02
Telescope: ATLAS Haleakala
Remarks: Long rise., now m_AB = 16.5 in orange filter
Last non-detection:
Archival info: SDSS
Details of the new object can be viewed here: https://www.wis-tns.org/object/2016bky
