TNS Astronomical Transient Report No. 1785 [ 2016TNSTR.273....1P ]
Date Received (UTC): 2016-04-09 11:33:40
Sender: Mr. Stuart Parker
Reporting Group: BOSS Discovery Data Source: BOSS
Stuart Parker report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: SN 2016blx
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 05:52:59.980 (88.249917) DEC = -17:51:44.20 (-17.862278)
Discovery date: 2016-04-09 09:35:41.000 (JD=2457487.8997801)
Potential host galaxy: IC438
Remarks: Stuart Parker, Canterbury, New Zealand, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (red mag 16.5) on a 30-s unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag19) taken by himself on April 9th at 9:35:41 UT with a 30-cm Astro-Tech AT12RCRitchey-Chretien astrograph (+ ST10 camera) at his Parkdale Observatory in the course of the Backyard Observatory Supernova Search. There is a star very close to the new transient point source. I do feel that the position is slightly different however it is possible that this is the same star. Follow up is recommended.
