TNS Astronomical Transient Report No. 10926 [ 2017TNSTR.465....1S ]
Date Received (UTC): 2017-04-23 13:34:59
Sender: Dr. Ken Smith
Reporting Group: Pan-STARRS1 Discovery Data Source: Pan-STARRS1
Ken Smith report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: SN 2017dgj
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 11:57:51.530 (179.464708) DEC = -23:57:24.21 (-23.956725)
Discovery date: 2017-04-20 06:22:28.000 (JD=2457863.7656019)
Potential host galaxy: 2MASX J11575197-2357173
Host redshift: 0.053564
Photometry
Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2017-04-20 06:22:28.000
Flux: 19.5 ABMag
Filter: V-Johnson
Instrument: SNIFS
Telescope: UH 88inch
Remarks: Note - this object is NOT the same as 2017cms It is a separate object 3.2 arcsec from that position. It was discovered serendipitously when attempting to observe 2017cms with SNIFS. I've also guessed its magnitude based on its similarity to 2017cms.
Last non-detection:
Archival info: DSS
Remarks: The object was not present when Pan-STARRS observed the field on 2017-03-16 09:57:36
Details of the new object can be viewed here: https://www.wis-tns.org/object/2017dgj
