Malesani (DAWN/NBI and DARK/NBI) STARGATE SN Ic-BL 0.117 1 1 STARGATE Optical afterglow of GRB 180728A (Starling et al., GCN 23046), initially discovered by Lipunov et al. (GCN 23048). Several spectra were acquired from our group, as described by Izzo et al. (GCN 23142), showing the emergence of a supernova from the GRB afterglow. The spectrum uploaded here shows a convincing match with the type-Ic SN 2002ap, thus allowing a robust classification of this SN as a broad-lined Type-Ic SN (Selsing et al., GCN 23181). 2018TNSCR1249....1S

tns_2018fip_classrep_2609_STARGATE.pdf Best match via the Superfit tool (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 1190; htpp://www.dahowell.com/superfit.html) with SN 2002ap at 8 days after maximum. Our spectrum was taken ~21 rest-frame days after the GRB explosion, an epoch comparable to the time of the matching SN 2002ap spectrum (assuming ~2 week rise time for SN 2018fip). 2018-08-27 23:14:17 Daniele Malesani
