5961 2020-01-23 18:33:34 Jamison Burke Jamison Burke, Daichi Hiramatsu, D. Andrew Howell, Curtis McCully, Craig Pellegrino Global SN Project SN Ia-91T-like 0.012454 1 Global SN Project Using Superfit (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 1190) and SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find best fits to SNe Ia, including SN 1999aa and SN 1999ac at early times. The supernova is closest to KUG 0925+387B (z =0.012454 DM ~ 33.7; 2004SDSS3.C...0000, values from NED), and this host redshift is confirmed by host hydrogen and O III lines in the 2D spectrum. No fit by either SNID or Superfit matches all spectral features. We have included the Superfit comparison to SN 1999aa at -7 days, but SN 2020akf displays possible deep C II 6580 absorption at approximately 15,000 km/s, in addition to brighter fluxes bluewards of 4000 angstroms. The magnitude reported by ATLAS on discovery (AstroNote 2020-17) was 18.89 on 2020-01-20.50 (absolute magnitude -14.8), with a non-detection two days earlier. The absolute magnitude, blue continuum, and unusual spectral features lead us to tentatively classify this as a very young overluminous SN Ia. Further followup is encouraged. 2020TNSCR.241....1B
