Raffaele Belligoli report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: AT 2021bfs
Discoverer internal name: PNV-OMB15
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 00:42:52.200 (10.7175) DEC = +41:16:24.60 (41.2735)
Discovery date: 2021-01-26 17:16:48.000 (JD=2459241.22)
Potential host galaxy: M31
Remarks: OMB extragalactic nova monitoring with ISSP collaboration reports the discovery of a probable nova in M31 by F.Castellani, R.Belligoli and C.Marangoni. The transient designated also PNV J00425220+4116246
Photometry
Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2021-01-26 17:16:48.000
Flux: 17.6 STMag
Filter: Clear-
Instrument: Other
Telescope: Other
Remarks: New transient was clearly detected on '2021-01-26.7209' UT using 16 x 300s frames (4800s total) obtained by a Moravian G4-9000 KAF unfiltered CCD with the 0.4m f.8 Ritchey-Chrétien telescope from Monte Baldo "A.Gelodi" Astronomic Observatory, località Novezzina, Ferrara di Monte Baldo, Verona, Italy. The discovery magnitude is 17.6±0.5 mag in the CV band (clear visual). We will continue to monitor the nova light curve and strongly encourage additional follow-up observations.
Last non-detection:
Last non-detection date: 2021-01-24 18:54:43
Limiting flux: 19 STMag
Filter: Clear-
Instrument: Other
Telescope: Other
Remarks: Last non-detected image on '2021-01-24.78888' UT using 16x 300s frames (4800s total) was obtained by a Moravian G4-9000 KAF unfiltered CCD with the 0.4m f.8 Ritchey-Chrétien
Archival info: DSS
Remarks: No stellar source is visible at the transient's position in our past images and ALADIN sky atlas. No variable star is present at these coordinates on the SIMBAD database.
