Andrew Howell, Curtis McCully, Craig PellegrinoGlobal SN ProjectSN Ia0.021515Global SN ProjectUsing Superfit (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 1190) and SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find best fits to young SNe Ia, including SN 1997bq 12 days before peak. The supernova is closest to NGC 4227 (z = 0.021515, DM = 34.9; 1995ApJS...99..391H and 2007A&A...465...71T; values from NED). Adopting this redshift we measure speeds of approximately 17000 km/s for the Si II 6355 line, and 24000 km/s for the Ca II NIR triplet. The B-band absolute magnitude roughly coeval with the spectrum is -17.6 (apparent magnitude 17.3, from LCO photometry). The high speeds and low absolute magnitude corroborate the classification as a young object. Further followup is encouraged.2021TNSCR.307....1B
