The spectrum shows a blue continuum with spectral features that suggest it to be a young stripped-envelope core-collapse supernova. SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2011, 2011ascl.soft07001B) finds good matches with the Type Ic supernovae SN 1983V, SN 2004aw and SN 2007gr before or near peak brightness. He I lines are not unambiguously detected, favouring a SN Ic designation. However, the presence of an unusually strong P-Cygni line near 6500 A (Halpha or C II with an expansion velocity of about 6000 km/s) makes the object somewhat peculiar. We have adopted the redshift of the host for the SN redshift.
