Sender: Christa DeCoursey
Reporting Group: JADES Discovery Data Source: JADES
Christa DeCoursey (University of Arizona), Fengwu Sun (University of Arizona), Eiichi Egami (University of Arizona), Marcia Rieke (University of Arizona), Kevin Hainline (University of Arizona), Shea DeFour-Remy (University of Arizona), Armin Rest (STScI), Justin Pierel (STScI), Mike Engesser (STScI), Daniel Eisenstein (Harvard/CfA), Brant Robertson (UC Santa Cruz), Benjamin Johnson (Harvard/CfA), Sandro Tacchella (University of Cambridge), Christopher Willmer (University of Arizona), Chris Willot (NRC Herzberg), Ryan Hausen (Johns Hopkins), Jakob Helton (University of Arizona), Christina Williams (NOIRLab), Ori Fox (STScI), Lou Strolger (STScI), Matt Siebert (STScI) report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: AT 2023voa
Discoverer internal name: jades-gs-3215e
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 03:32:14.467 (53.060281) DEC = -27:51:27.13 (-27.857536)
Discovery date: 2023-10-17 00:00:00.000 (JD=2460234.5)
Potential host galaxy: JADES-GS+53.06026-27.85754
Host redshift: 3.95
Remarks: We note that the photometric redshift is very uncertain because of the faintness of the host galaxy, and the 16-84th percentile of z_phot distribution is 0.83 - 4.27.
