Megan Newsome (Las Cumbres Observatory), Iair Arcavi (Tel Aviv University), Sara Faris (TAU), Yael Dgany (TAU), Moira Andrews (LCO), Joseph Farah (LCO), D. A. Howell (LCO), Curtis McCully (LCO), Chris Ni (LCO) report/s a classification of object: SN 2025gxs
Type: SN IaRedshift: 0.02409
Remarks: Using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find best fits to SNe Ia near maximum light, including SN 2003du 11 days before peak. The supernova is closest to MCG -01-40-004 (z = 0.02409, value from NED). Adopting this redshift we measure a Si II 6355 velocity of approximately 12,000 km/s. Adopting the distance modulus computed from this redshift (35.1), the g-band absolute magnitude of the object roughly coeval with the spectrum is -18.3 (apparent magnitude 16.781, from ZTF). This absolute magnitude and velocity is consistent with an SN Ia approaching maximum light.
The following Classification spectrum was provided:
