C. Macmillan, I. Copeland, R. Higgins report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: AT 2001ky
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 10:23:13.296 (155.8054) DEC = +04:35:38.98 (4.59416)
Discovery date: 2001-02-20 09:17:20.000 (JD=2451960.887037)
Potential host galaxy: 2MASX J10231308+0435387
Host redshift: 0.06424
Remarks: This transient was first noticed in a discussion started by Robert Higgins (RVRangerRob) on the Galaxy Zoo website here:https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/zookeeper/galaxy-zoo/talk/subjects/27364401. Other participants are: Irena Copeland (Cowslip), Christine Macmillan and Richard Nowell.
Photometry
Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2001-02-20 09:17:20.000
Flux: 17.12 ABMag
Filter: r-Sloan
Instrument: SDSS-Spec
Telescope: Sloan Digital Sky Survey
Remarks: The r-band Apparent magnitude was calculated by Richard Nowell using APT and reference star: SDSS J102312.41+043539.4 http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr14/en/tools/explore/Summary.aspx?id=1237654605860765722. An additional g-band Apparent magnitude of 19.28 was calculated. An r-band Absolute magnitude was also calculated as -20.21 (with k-correction).
Last non-detection:
Archival info: SDSS
