S. Beer, R. Nowell report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.
IAU Designation: AT 2002mb
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 12:05:59.155 (181.496478) DEC = +10:01:00.95 (10.016931)
Discovery date: 2002-03-12 06:55:55.000 (JD=2452345.788831)
Potential host galaxy: SDSS J120559.29+100058.5
Host redshift: 0.092
Remarks: This transient was first noticed in a discussion started on the Galaxy Zoo website by participant bluemagi (Sylvia Beer) at this address: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/zookeeper/galaxy-zoo/talk/subjects/28492864. The other participant is Rick Nowell.
Photometry
Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2002-03-12 06:55:55.000
Flux: 18.02 ABMag
Filter: r-Sloan
Instrument: SDSS-Spec
Telescope: Sloan Digital Sky Survey
Remarks: The Apparent magnitude (r-band) was calculated by Richard Nowell using APT and reference star: SDSS J120558.95+100044.2 http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr14/en/tools/explore/Summary.aspx?id=1237671129130664099. An Absolute magnitude (r-band) of -20.08 (with K-correction) was also calculated.
Last non-detection:
