TNS Classification Report No. 10849 [ 2021TNSCR3199....1B ]
Date Received (UTC): 2021-09-15 19:29:42 Sender: Jamison Burke
Group: Global SN Project
Jamison Burke, Daichi Hiramatsu, D. Andrew Howell, Curtis McCully, Megan Newsome, Estefania Padilla Gonzalez, Craig Pellegrino report/s a classification of object: SN 2021yyg
Type: SN IIRedshift: 0.011625
Remarks: The spectrum consists of a strong blue continuum with narrow host emission lines. As such, we classify it as a probable young SN II, although we note that at early times there can be confusion between young SNe II and young SNe Ib/c (see SN 2021yja classification reports). The B-band absolute magnitude approximately coeval with this spectrum is -16.0 (apparent magnitude 18.0, from LCO photometry). Further followup of this nearby rising source is recommended.
The following Classification spectrum was provided:
Obsdate: 2021-09-15 18:03:51
