There are good fits to SN 1998S at the early phases. The supernova appears to be hostless (z = 0.05; value from SNID). The B-band absolute magnitude is approximately -18.3 (apparent magnitude 18.4). The absolute magnitude and blue continuum indicate that the SN is young. Further followup is encouraged
