15435 2023-08-21 13:07:58 Simon de Wet Simon de Wet, Orapeleng Mogawana, David Buckely, Paul Groot MeerLICHT SN IIn 0.0285 1 MeerLICHT AT2023mza was observed by the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) on 2023 July 21 equipped with the Robert Stobie Spectrograph (RSS), employing the PG700 grating covering the wavelength range 4200-7400 Angstroms with a mean spectral resolution of 7.6 Angstroms. The spectrum shows strong Balmer emission lines at a common redshift of z=0.0285, equivalent to the redshift of the nearby spiral Galaxy ESO 239-12. The presence of strong Balmer emission lines are indicative of a circumstellar-medium interaction, so we classify AT2023mza as a supernova of type IIn. Observations are ongoing, and we encourage further photometric and spectroscopic follow-up. 2023TNSCR2034....1D
