Andrew Howell, Curtis McCully, Estefania Padilla Gonzalez, Giacomo Terreran Global SN Project SN II 0.027 1 Global SN Project Using Superfit (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 1190) and SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find best fits to SNe II at early phases. There are good fits to SN 2004et (IIP) at extremely early phases and also to SN 2005cs (SN IIP) more than two weeks before maximum. The supernova is closest to UGC 11981 (z = 0.021388, 2005ApJS..160..149S; value from NED). This redshift is well-matched by narrow host hydrogen. Assuming this redshift, we measure a hydrogen velocity of about 10,000 km/s from the Hα absorption and a similar He velocity from He 5876. The g-band absolute magnitude roughly coeval with the spectrum is approximately -16.5 (apparent magnitude 18.36), and recent photometry show the SN is near peak.
