Panos Charalampopoulos report/s a classification of object: SN 2023pfj

Type: SN IIn
Redshift: 0.111

Remarks: Remarks: We report the classification of AT2023pfj as a Ia supernova based on an optical spectrum obtained with the Nordic Optical Telescope on 2023-08-27 (i.e., MJD 60183.15). The transient is coincident with the nucleus of the host galaxy. We tentatively identify Halpha and Hbeta narrow lines at a redshift of z~0.111. The last non-detection is ~ 17d ago and the light-curve seems to be reaching the peak. Comparison with a library of supernovae spectra using GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008 2008A&A...488..383H), suggests AT2023pfj is an around 19 days post-explosion IIn supernova (matching the actual light-curve phase). The best matching transient that GELATO finds is SN 1998S. At this redshift, the absolute magnitude of the supernova in the g-band would be M = -19.8.
