Remarks: The NUTS2 and POISE collaborations report the classification of supernova (SN) 2023vcg (ZTF23abjwgre) located in UGC 12850. Inspection of our NOT spectrum reveals a blue continuum with P Cygni Balmer features, the hallmarks of a relatively young type IIP supernova. Cross-correlation with a library of template SN spectra using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), indicates close resemblance to pre-maximum spectra (i.e., within a week of explosion) of the type IIP SN 1999em.
